Completed joint project: BEKUTA

BEKUTA Ltd. is a joint-project company established by proprietors and partners of the Alliance Informatics and Innovation Cluster for the research and development of medical patient cooperation in December, 2011.

International research confirms that these days, the proportion of chronic diseases is growing across all illness. Besides choosing the appropriate therapy, the basis for the success of a long-lasting treatment is the patient’s cooperation. In Hungary, only 40% of patients suffering from chronic diseases cooperate with their physicians properly during therapy. The increased patient’s cooperation is useful and necessary for all parties involved. Following a successful application, we started a subsidized project under the New Szechenyi Plan Economic Development Operational Programme in June, 2012. The objective of the project is to create and market service packages which will result in the efficient improvement of cooperation of medical patients through the development of technological and software tools based on research data.

The solution we develop during the project will apply intelligent, state-monitoring devices and surveillance-warning methods alongside the most up-to-date ITC system. The total budget of the project is HUF 441,422,000.00 and the deadline for completion is 31st December, 2013.

As part of the project, we will study factors of the evolution of adherence involving approx. 1,000 medical patients. Moreover, we will elaborate an IT system utilizing all ITC tools of e-Health, e.g. mobile applications. Furthermore, we will develop and – with the patients involved in the 6 month study – put into operation such ‘state of health’ monitoring devices (i.e. blood pressure, blood sugar, etc.), which will automatically transfer the measured values to a data center, thus enabling analysis and efficient surveillance. Based on our research observations, we will examine and analyze the willingness of the patients to take medication and, as far as possible, will reveal the extent of adherence in this environment. Another objective is to create service packages which will be defined on the basis of the experiences of the project period and which may promote cooperation. This is very important for both anxious relatives and the medication financing organization.
